Routine maintenance methods of FANUC robots

Routine maintenance methods of FANUC robots

    Regular maintenance of the robot can extend the service life of the robot. The maintenance cycle of the FANUC robot can be divided into three months, six months, one year and three years.

  1. Replace the battery on the controller motherboard

Programs and system variables are stored in the SRAM on the motherboard and are powered by a battery located on the motherboard to save data. When the voltage of this battery is insufficient, an alarm (SYST-035 Low or No Battery Power in PSU) will be displayed on the TP. When the voltage becomes lower, the contents in the SRAM will not be backed up. At this time, the old battery needs to be replaced and the originally backed up data needs to be reloaded. Therefore, be sure to regularly back up your data with a Memory Card or floppy disk. It is recommended to replace the battery on the controller motherboard once every one to two years. The specific steps are as follows:

1) Prepare a new battery (it is recommended to use FANUC original battery);

2) After the robot is powered on and starts normally, wait for 30 seconds;

3) Power off the robot, open the controller cabinet, unplug the connector and remove the old battery from the motherboard;

4) Install the new battery and plug in the connector;

5) Battery replacement must be completed within 20 minutes.

  1. Replace the battery on the robot body

The battery on the robot body is used to save the data of each axis encoder. Therefore, the battery needs to be replaced every year. When the battery voltage drop alarm (SRVO-065 BLAL alarm (Group: %d Axis: %d) occurs, the user is allowed to replace the battery. If it is not replaced in time, the alarm (SRVO-062 BZAL alarm(Group: %d Axis: %d), the robot will not be able to move at this time. If you encounter this situation, replace the battery, and you need to do Mastering to make the robot run normally. The specific steps are as follows:

1) Keep the robot power on and press the machine emergency stop button;

2) Open the cover of the battery box and take out the old battery;

3) Replace with new batteries (it is recommended to use FANUC original batteries) and be careful not to install the wrong positive and negative poles (there are signs on the lid of the battery box);

4) Close the lid of the battery box and tighten the screws.

  1. Replace the reducer and gear box lubricating oil

Every three years or 10,000 working hours of the robot, the J1 J2 J3 J4 J5 J6 axis reducer lubricating oil and the J4 axis gear box lubricating oil need to be replaced. Some types of robots, such as S-430 and R-2000, need to replace the lubricating oil of the balance weight bearing every six months or every 1920 working hours.

Specific steps are as follows:

1) Power off the robot;

2) Pull out the oil outlet plug;

3) Add lubricating oil from the oil inlet and stop adding lubricating oil until new lubricating oil flows out of the oil outlet;

4) Let the oiled axis of the robot rotate repeatedly for a period of time until no oil flows out from the oil outlet;

5) Reinstall the plug of the oil outlet.

Note: Incorrect operation will cause damage to the sealing ring.

To avoid errors, operators should pay attention to the following points:

1) Before changing the lubricating oil, remove the oil outlet plug

2) Add slowly using a manual oil gun

3) Avoid using the compressed air provided by the factory as the power source of the oil gun. If it is absolutely necessary, the pressure must be controlled within 75Kgf/cm2 and the flow rate must be controlled within 15/ss.

4) The specified lubricating oil must be used, other lubricating oil will damage the reducer

5) After the replacement is completed, confirm that no lubricating oil flows out from the oil outlet, and install the oil outlet plug.

6) In order to prevent slipping accidents, thoroughly remove oil stains on the robot and the floor.

FANUC Robot Maintenance

  1. Replace the balance weight bearing lubricant

Steps:

Add lubricating oil directly from the oil nozzle, not too much each time (about 10CC)

As for the amount of lubricating oil that needs to be replaced and the location of the oil filler/oil outlet, refer to the machine maintenance manual that comes with the machine.

Note: Replacing the battery and lubricating oil must be performed by professional technicians. The original battery and lubricating oil must be replaced, otherwise you will be responsible for the consequences.

  1. Conclusion

Routine maintenance is an important measure to ensure the normal operation of equipment, extend its life, optimize performance, reduce the risk of failure, reduce maintenance costs and improve safety. It helps identify and solve potential problems, keeps equipment running at its best, and improves work efficiency and equipment reliability.
